Yep, we're yuppies

I'd long had suspicions as much. But on Monday, it became indisputable. We were at a barbecue where the attendees spent 15-20 minutes discussing someone's household budget. We then smoothly segued into tax withholding rates and the qualities of the corporate benefits office.

I thought it was a decent conversation. That's how I know we're yuppies, not just some blameless wayfarers lost in yuppie hell.

wow. thats how i knew that despite having some of the external trappings, i never was. yikes. that sounds like hell to me.

The thing about Federal Income Tax rates that is lost and confused by most casual conversations about them is that the rates are marginal. The 1st $14.6K (or whatever it is presently) of everyone's income is taxed at 10%, even if you are Bill Gates. People get so outraged by the notion of a tax bracket about 35% but that would only be a tax on income beyond the 1st $326K (or whatever). Honestly...
